Kinematifest 2013

April 18th, 2013

Ben, Dana, and Carol will be presenting the keynote panel at Saturday’s “Kinematifest,” an interactive media and animation festival sponsored by Webster University. Come see us talk about our latest endeavors, and chat about what it’s like to start up an indie studio and gain momentum in the game development scene.

The panel will be located in Sverdrup room 123 at 3:30pm. We’ll have t-shirts to give away, so make sure to stick around and say hi afterwards.

Kinematifest is also hosting all sorts of other animation and game-related events and panels, so for more information, check it out online!

Off to GDC!

March 24th, 2013

We’re heading to San Francisco this week to attend the GDC 2013 Independent Games Summit. We’re so excited to attend, learn all about the current indie game landscape, and meet loads of wonderful people. We’re really looking forward to spreading the word about our latest release, Cupcake Carnage, as well as looking for support for the Something Fragile Kickstarter. If you’ll be in the area, let us know and we’d love to meet up with you!

Cupcake Carnage Released!

March 20th, 2013

Cupcake Carnage has launched for both Android and iOS today! We’re doing a city-wide cupcake giveaway on Twitter today for people who help us by downloading and tweeting about the game, so hop on over to participate!

Cupcake Carnage is a sugar-sweet arcade-style game that Dana and Carol have been working tirelessly on for the past few months. We hope you love it as much as we do! The space-invaders style gameplay coupled with the super-cute sounds and graphics are sure to have you hooked.

Download it for Android as well as iPhone and iPad here! (And keep your eyes peeled for a candy-coated sequel later this year.)

Something Fragile Kickstarter

March 12th, 2013

Happy Badger Studio is excited to announce the recent launch of a Kickstarter campaign to fund their latest game, Something Fragile.  Following the inception of this puzzle/platform game during the 48-hour 2013 Global Game Jam in January, the Happy Badgers are seeking support to finish production of the game.

Something Fragile blends a unique, hand-crafted, stop-motion animation art style with gameplay that seeks to engage players emotionally.  Not only is this a non-violent game that doesn’t focus on shooting, but its creators believe it has the power to teach empathy and love.

STOP MATH – Playtesting and Publishing

October 17th, 2012

We were approached about STOP MATH after we spoke on a game design panel at Webster University. Artist Jeff Weigel had been working on the app with a developer, but didn’t know what to do with it from there.

After discussing at length, Jeff decided he wanted to hire Happy Badger Studio to test, market, and publicize the app. This was the first time we had ever been asked to act as a 3rd party publisher on an game we didn’t create. It was new for us, but we were excited.

STOP MATH Releasing on October 4

October 2nd, 2012

New York Times bestselling illustrator and children’s book author, Jeff Weigel, has announced the release of the his interactive storybook app for iPad, STOP MATH, published by Happy Badger Studio and Rampant Interactive. The app takes advantage of the iPad’s technology to involve kids in an entertaining time-travel adventure while introducing them to the wonders of math and science.

The story, for children ages 8 to 12, follows a boy from the future and his robot dog as they travel back through time and space on a quest to find the “evil” genius who invented math and put an end to math homework forever. As they travel, the two characters cross paths with Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton, and learn there’s more to math than just homework.

AnimeSTL 2012, here we come!

April 18th, 2012

Has it been a whole year since last year’s AnimeSTL/TornadoCon 2011? Between the tornados and the awesome costumes, we got our first dose of exposure at last year’s AnimeSTL event, and couldn’t have been more encouraged by the attendees’ reactions to our in-production games. We couldn’t believe how much of a buzz our stickers created throughout the con, inspiring so many people to find out more about the games we had in the pipeline. This year we have even more to talk about.

Stodgy Gents Concept to Completion – the Artist’s Take

November 5th, 2011

So at long last the Happy Badgers have released their first iOS game. It’s been a long road getting here, and being proud of the accomplishment only describes have the feelings I have as artist/animator.

Artists always say their work is like their child. Boredom often breeds kids (applicable to both artists and farmers), and the Gents were born nearly six months ago on a chilly early-spring evening when I, personally, ran out of stuff to do.

The rest of the Badgers were working on a larger project with assets divvied up between us. I’ve always been a quick-draw (with a pen not a gun, I’d be under the table at the OK corral) so I finished a bit ahead of the other assets. Now one can either sit on their hands and be a lazy good-for-nothing, or one can be an independent developer and make something. Let that be lesson one for both artists and farmers – you want something to grow, you better get busy.
